Prominent Young Business Man Dies In Kentland

Roy Dixer son of Mr and Mrs Thos Dixon of Kentland died after about two weeks illness. The funeral at his home drew town and county representatives. A Depauw University graduate, he served in the heavy artillery overseas and later entered business with his father. Married last December to Miss Glide Brown of St. Joseph Michigan. Services conducted by Rev Harper and Rev Wheeler with Beta Theta Pi members lending rites. Kentland business houses closed in mourning.

Guests included Miss Sage and Chas Shili Jr with Brook relatives visiting. couple depart for Chicago for a brief honeymoon before settling near Foresman.

Reunion of an Old Pioneer Family in Goodland Grove

Sunday June 26 a reunion of the Alter family and relatives will be held at Lews Alter's home four miles northeast of Goodland. The event marks the 75th anniversary and Lewis Alters 70th birthday as years of settlement begun in 1846 when Rev John Alters and family first located on the prairie. The public, especially old settlers prewar, are welcome to bring dinner and picnic in the grove and reunite with neighbors.

Farm Bureau Picnic Draws 1900 Plus Attendees

More than a thousand Farm Bureau members and guests packed Grant township’s W F Cory grove last Thursday for a township picnic. A Shorthorns versus Durocs ball game, races, contests, and a sewing and dressing contest filled the afternoon with lighthearted competition and prizes awarded to top finishers. The event featured wide community participation and support for local charity efforts in Chicago through the picnic group led by Wilbur Nesbit.

James Harrison Dead in Brook Home at 85

James Harrison died at his daughter Mrs. Sam Hadden’s Brook home after years of invalidism. A member of the Tth Ky cavalry, he served in the Confederate army. His funeral was at the home with burial in Brook cemetery. The Foresmans hosted relatives including Ann Oaks, Mrs. Jones, Marty Foresman, Frank Foresman, Mrs. Mary Gwaltney, and Mrs. Mature Nelson. Miss Wilin Hartong departed Wednesday for Joliet for a visit.

Foresmans Picnic At Hazelden

The Foresman clan gathered at Hazelden hosted by Mr Ade with English bowls arrow throwing horseshoe pitching swimming golf and socializing. Officers elected at the afternoon session include President Mrs Florence Merce Lafayette and Secretary Mrs Alta Hult Indianapolis. A note of thanks praised Mr Ade and the Brook Social Service Society. The next meeting will be in Lafayette in early September.
