Mr and Mrs Kinder Kennedy and Bruce Beagley sold his wholesale candy business the first of the week to A J Liggett of Danville Illinois. Liggett took possession at once and transferred the stock to Danville closing up the Bronk shop. Beagley hasn t yet decided what he will do.
Mrs Job English died at her Browk home on Friday February 2 in her 88th year after a long illness. She lived in Jasper and Newton counties much of her life and was known for frugality, neighborly kindness, and steadfast friendship. Survived by daughter Mrs Curtis Carpenter of Cadiz Ohio and 21 grandchildren, funeral held at home then at Rensselaer Westara Cemetery with Rev Crowder officiating. Her long married life to Job English spanned seventy years.
Movie listings announce Feb 9 screenings with Bebe Danisis in The Marc Hara at 10 and 20 cents. In a grim event Bil Mapes hanged himself in the O K livery barn after despair over business prospects. Constable Newt Plum reports a late attempt by bandits to loot the area but nothing was taken. The town notes the actor Bil Mapes and the deputy Newt Plum in a restless night.
