Residents are invited to an open house Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at McKnight State Hospital in Carlsbad. The event showcases extensive improvements including a new intensive care unit two new Medicare qualifying buildings and air conditioning. The hospital now offers extended care for seriously ill patients and refreshments will be served.
Contestants from Bronte School travel to Sterling City Saturday at 8 a.m. for the District Elementary Literary Meet. Bronte fields entries in six events with 24 participants including several named students and alternates across oral reading spelling plain writing ready writing number sense storytelling picture memory and more.
The Enterprise lists candidates who have authorized their candidacy for nomination to the offices shown and party tickets. Filing charges are $25 for state district county and commissioner races and $20 for other precinct offices.
Mrs. G L Cook of Paint Rock visited at her ranch Saturday. The Bomar Hortons built up to date loading chutes and branding gear the past two weeks. Mr and Mrs George Faulkner of San Angelo visited the Hollands Sunday. The Smiths and Hollands attended a wahoo and 88 party at Carl Florence home in Ballinger. The Jolly 8 club met with Bert Hester Friday night. Guests included Tommy Boykin Rob Springer Carl Florence George Coleman Vernie Smith and Hester. Mrs Jerry Landers spent the weekend in Liano for Jehovahs Witnesses meeting. Mr and Mrs Robert Melvin Brown of Blackwell worked on their ranch. Mrs Horace Sikes was released from a Fort Worth hospital after surgery and will return for follow up. Mrs Carl Lewis and Mrs Clarence Lee attended a workers conference at Milles Baptist Church Monday night.
Last weekend the West residence hosted Mr. and Mrs. Danny Johnson and their Odessa children, Mr. and Mrs. P. O. West with Marian, and Mark Henderson, all of Midland.
Active campaign setup in Coke County to back House Speaker Ben Barnes of DeLeon for lieutenant governor. Royce Lee of Bronte named county coordinator and Mrs. Cumbie Ivey Jr. of Robert Lee chairwoman for women's activities. Ben Oglesby handles publicity. Campaign materials ordered for distribution in Robert Lee and Bronte. Barnes entered gubernatorial bid months ago and has a long political history including two terms as Speaker.
