Great Plains Conservation Program Extended Ten Years
The U S Congress extended the Great Plains Conservation Program to 1981 with a new $150 million federal cost share. In Texas 10,908 farmers and ranchers have contracts covering 13.7 million acres and $37 million in cost share, with about 1,200 more applications on file. The law aims to boost soil and water conservation, enhance fish wildlife and recreation resources, and address farming related pollution.
