A car stalled on the road in front of the Newport public beach as a gale rose and high surf swamped the auto. Mr Polleys freed the ignition with a self starter after 15 minutes, rewaning momentum to reach higher land. Several others were marooned behind them and the next day drownings were reported at the area.
The Bristol Phoenix reports cooperation with the Warren and Barrington Gazette during an emergency fuel and gas shortage. Gazette owner Roy L. Lawin lent typesetting facilities so the Phoenix could print and ship evening news to Bristol. Prices and availability of emergency copies are noted, with a call for reader cooperation.
The St Michael church school opens at 10 am Sunday in the church. The Women’s Civic League harvest dance scheduled for October 7 is postponed indefinitely.

The Bristol disaster relief effort lists committee members including Dr Alfred M Merriman and William H Angévinie Haffenreffer. Forms to apply are distributed and must be filed with the committee detailing property location valuation mortgages taxes and liens.
