Rotarians Hear Plan To Convert Colt Estate Into Park
Ernest Friday of the RI Development Council outlined why the Colt Estate at Pappasquash should become a state park. The plan envisions 470 acres with staged development including golf, tennis, picnicking, boating, a seawalk, gardens, and a resort complex. The first phase estimates $700,000, funded by state money, with Bristol tax implications discussed and traffic improvements proposed to ease access.

Wilbur Hospitalized After Fall At Rehearsal
Wilbur, 44, of 46 Constitution St., a musical arranger and bugle instructor for the Kingsmen Bugle and Drum Corps, fell from a wooden stool during a break, suffering two broken ribs and a severe head blow. Dr Paul A Botelho ordered transit to RI Hospital for a two to three week stay. Harold A Sousa and two senior corps members moved him to the hospital.

Nineteen Food Handlers Attend First Educational Meeting
Nineteen town food handlers attended the first meeting of the public health program at Reynolds School Auditorium. Dr C Paul Bruno health officer and Dr Joseph Castronova Southeast Health Unit director and Joseph Maguire state sanitarian spoke on hygiene and food handling. The event included two films and a call for mandatory physical examinations. Town sanitation official Nicholas Mancieri outlined follow up inspections and a booklet on laws and regulations. Fire Dept. Halts Early Dawn Home Blaze
A serious fire at Joseph Avila’s Narrows Road home was stopped at 1240 am after a small explosion in the cellar awakened him. Fire charred a gas can and an outboard motor, but damage was confined to the boat equipment and contained by one booster from the Defiance pumper.
