Unoccupied Wall St House Destroyed in Major Blaze
A fire destroyed an unoccupied house and shed on Wall St in town, sending heavy smoke across the area. Owned by John Francis III of 607 Metacom Ave, the blaze drew about 40 firefighters who laid 1800 feet of hose, but flames collapsed the structure. The house contained hay and scrap lumber, with roof repairs noted from years past. Cause undetermined.

Sailors Fined For Reveling On Newport Streets
Three sailors from the USS Glennon were arraigned in Fifth District Court before Acting Judge Joseph D Accardi. They pleaded guilty to reveling on Hope Street at 1:15 am today and were fined $10 plus costs each. Defendants were Sidney Hall 21 John F Cotes 18 and Robert J Cleary 18.

Pact Signed For Bristol Water Sewer Connection
A 1271.87 contract between Bristol County Water Co and Bristol Sewer Commission for water service at the Sowams Drive sewer pumping station was signed Friday night. Sewer Commission chairman Louis Medeiros said completion is likely within a week and residents may start tying in. reimbursements to the town will be made as connections occur. Town engineer Joseph A. Murgo and plant superintendent Louis Tortorice must approve the final tap. Besides water work the plant needs painting and wiring plus a sump pump. The bid was 43411.55 with about 500 remaining unpaid.
