The Town Council approved a plan by sanitarian Nicholas Mancieri to hold a public meeting on sanitation and food handling next Tuesday in Beyagids School Auditorium at 8 16 pm. Dr C Paul Bruno health officer and Southeast Health Unit director Yoseph Castronovo will join town food handlers doctors and dentists.

Building Commission Interviewing Five Architect Firms

Bids Out On Sewer Extension Project
Louis Medeiros announced bids for the year’s lone sewer extension. The plan adds ten manholes and about a 500 foot Manchester Street extension to alleviate drainage from the mistaken pitched Thompson Avenue line installed in 1947. Petitions On Park Are Filed With Town Council
Two petitions signed by about 60 residents were filed with the Town Council asking park improvements at the foot of Church Street. One seeks replacement of benches in deplorable condition and the other asks Tree Warden Joseph Kinder to plant a border of shade trees. Volunteers from the neighborhood and Bristol Garden Club helped with cleanup after private industry ceased upkeep. The WPA benches at the park’s west end remain unrepaired since the 1945 hurricane.

Cutter Spar Braves Rough Seas To Service No Man's Land
Coast Guard Cutter Spar battled 40 mph gusts and heavy seas off Narragansett Bay to service buoys at No Man's Land. Lt. Norman Ensrud said crew faced spray five feet high, many seasick, before preparing for dredging near Point Judith and Block Island next week. The operation is expected to take one to three days.
