Smith Street fence removed after council action
A heavy wire fence at the west end of Smith street near Wynstone was taken down early Saturday by town engineer Harvey S Jewell under orders from the Town Council at a Friday meeting attended by Town Solicitor James F Lavander. Previous 1921 disputes over ornamental gates led to a Providence Superior Court ruling denying a permanent injunction. the council, relying on its solicitor, said the Barns sisters had no right to block the street and directed removal of the fence.
