Community Service Bristol Forms Board and Plans
The Community Service of Bristol Rhode Island organization held its charter meeting at John Post Reynolds School auditorium. A 21 member board and officers were elected led by President Charles B Rockwell and packed with local leaders. Ruth Sherburne advised on two new playgrounds a paid executive secretary and a $5000 annual budget to fund year round recreation for all ages. A finance campaign house to house canvass and local town support were urged with a next meeting planned in the Council Chamber to elect an executive committee and expand welfare recreation plans.

Armistice Day Plans Move Forward In Kearney
Armistice Day Committee with five Kearney residents and five town taxpayers plans a community celebration. A $1,000 appropriation exists plus efforts to raise more funds. The first event is a moving picture show on September 20 at Pastime Theatre with soloist Miss Aidan Connery. Tickets from committee members and Hamills Dry Goods. New Ferry Schedule Announces Newport and Providence Route Times
The Newport and Providence Rail Road issues fall ferry schedule with The Bristol departing Constitution Street at 9 a.m. Sundays connect with Providence electric trains and run every 15 minutes until 8 15 p.m. Weekdays begin at 8 a.m. with 15 minute intervals to 5 15 p.m. The Bristol remains active and the Sagamore will be added later for winter service.

New Thrift Savings Plan Gains Local School Support
Following a School Committee vote, Industrial Trust Company staff arrived to introduce a Thrift Savings plan in schools. Over 1100 thrift accounts have been opened, with 56 high school pupils participating. Accounts start at one cent, using a special deposit book, though current small accounts mean a loss for the bank. The hope is youth savings will grow and influence family accounts, benefiting the community.

Life Savers Meet Plans Prudence Island Outing
Bristol branch of the United States Volunteer Life Saving Corps met at headquarters on Church Street and voted to hold an outing at Prudence Island on Sunday September 23. The group also approved a benefit motion picture showing and admitted one new member. Fife and Drum Corps agreed to resume weekly rehearsals starting the first Wednesday in October.
