School Safety Drive Warns Drivers Over Open School Hours

School age children constitute 14 percent of yearly pedestrian traffic deaths. H Benton Garvin of the Automobile Club of Rhode Island urged motorists to slow near schools as classes resume. A safety poster reading School's Open all is Carefully will appear on streets and police departments will receive bumper stripes and posters. About 131,000 copies will be distributed. the poster was designed by Patricia Madara, Notre Dame High School Moylan PA, winner in the 1958 ABA poster contest.

Major autumn exhibition at the Museum of Art features Aldrich collection

The first autumn show at the Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design centers on Edward B. Aldrich’s decorative arts collection. It displays eighteenth and nineteenth century American glass, early English pottery, and American furniture with four chairs bearing James Gillingham labels. A Daumier exhibit marks the sesquicentennial of the French artist, pairing lithographs with drawings and an oil painting.
