Laurel C G Cutter Laurel Cited For Rescue
The buoy-tender Laurel spent a month in Bristol this summer and earned a First Coast Guard District citation for its rescue work after the Newport tanker collision on August 7. Admiral Edmund J. Roland read the tribute to the ship’s crew in Rockland Maine as 200 New England editors observed the ceremony. The citation, engraved on a bronze plaque, honors Lt Commander John Meechann and the Laurel crew for rescuing tanker personnel near Bull Point Jamestown after lowering boats to search the scene.

Explorer Completes 3300 Mile New England Voyage
The motor vessel Explorer returned to its Warren dock after a 3300 mile 24 day trip around New England and parts of Canada.
