School Committee Meets Amid Staffing and Budget Moves

Bristol Train of Artillery Plans National Defense Day Observance

The Bristol Train of Artillery holds its monthly meeting at the Armory led by Col Merton A Cheesman. Plans were made for National Defense Test Day with volunteers aged 18 to 45 to register and offer service in the Army Navy or Marine Corps if needed. Drills for Companies A and B to resume the first week in October were announced and Frank Sousa was appointed acting Second Lieutenant of Company B.

Lawn Party and Community Supper Dates Listed

Upcoming events include a Sept. 11 lawn party for Home for Aged Women from 3 to 6 PM and a Sept. 18 community supper in the YMCA under the Ladies' Committee.

National Defense Test Day Observance Planned in Bristol

Bristol committee announced a tentative National Defense Test Day program for Friday at Colt Memorial High School plaza weather permitting. The lineup includes bells 430 to 5 pm chimes of Trinity Church My Country Tis of Thee an address by Daniel W Coggeshall and songs by school children with Star Spangled Banner. The group seeks public help to fund a band and welcomes local support for a parade if funds or gratis musicians can be arranged.

Schools opened yesterday with more students and several staff changes. John J Condon became high school principal, Frank E Chamberlain moved to Colt high as submaster, and Miss Laurine Bradford joined the high school English and Latin staff.

Girl Scout Troop Sets Fall Meeting at Reynolds School

Troop 1 Goldenrod Bristol Girl Scouts will hold its first regular fall meeting on Wednesday September 17 at 4 o clock in the Reynolds School auditorium. All scouts are urged to attend as plans for the coming year will be made.
