Fatal Auto Accident Claims Providence Man

George F. Lynch aged 35 of 23 Valley Street Providence died at Rhode Island Hospital from a fractured skull after being struck by a roadster on Main Road during a rainstorm Tuesday night. John J. Sheridan of 242 Morris Avenue Providence was jailed on $2000 bail for manslaughter. Miss Ada Bengaff 25 of 202 Longfellow Street Providence was badly cut and later discharged. Sheridan and Robert ONeill of Warren were in the car with him. Lynch’s car had broken down and they were walking when the unseen driver hit them.

Little World Series opens with Warren Bristol clash at Bhven Field

Plans for the 1924 Little World Series between Warren and Bristol nearing completion promise a banner event. Managers seek rosters from semi pro to major leagues with at least two local players per team. Warren aims for an all star infield including Morrissey, Butler, Torys, and Demoe. Bristol pursues a top pitcher to start. Umpires are arranged with Devron behind the plate and Arnold on the bases.

New Librarian Chosen at Rogers Free Library

At a Bristol meeting Miss Esther Jo Osterberg was elected librarian to replace the late George Ulric Arnold who served 46 years. The trustees called a tribute to Arnold noting his faithful service and impact on generations of readers, and resolved to send the tribute to his family and publish it.

Bree Evening School Opens With English Instruction

The free public evening American Nation School starts Monday September 15 at 7 pm at Reynolds School. Aliens will learn to speak read and write English. Attendance required for ages 16 to 21 with a 100 night term and penalties up to 20 dollars. sessions run Monday Wednesday and Friday 7 to 9.

National Defense Test Day Observed In Bristol Program

Bristol marks National Defense Test Day on the sixth anniversary of a World War I battle with a 430 to 500 pm program at Colt Memorial High School plaza. The local committee led by Senator D W Coggeshall includes A A Edmonds and James F Lavander. Chimes at Trimts Church play national airs, with remarks by Coggeshall and George T Brown and schoolchildren performances.

The Rhode Island Daughters of the American Revolution hold the annual fall conference on Wednesday September 24 in Newport. William Ellery Chapter hosts with morning session at YMCA Hall Mary Street. Luncheon at 1230 with tickets $1.00 obtainable from the Bristol Chapter Regent by Sept 20. Afternoon tours include Vernon House Old State House Historical Society Old Jewish Synagogue and Old Trinity Church followed by tea at Mrs William W Covell Regent. Bristol Ferryboat departs 10 15 a m and arrives 11 25 a m for Newport connection.
