Donat J Gladue was elected Friday night to lead Kearney Post A American Legion for the coming year at the Legion Home Sulphur Field Miss Commander Gladue succeeds Frederick W Coggeshall who presided at the session and handed the gavel to the new leader Installation of officers planned for October in a joint ceremony with Riverside Post No 10 and Barrington American Legion Post at Riverside Doane and Goulart elected senior vice commander and junior vice commander respectively with a full slate of officers announced including Chaplain Cuomo Adjutant Fish and Treasurer Garvin The post voted $2 to the Salvation Army drive and planned a bingo to benefit Bristol Buddy Bundles Sept 22 Veterans law and by law revisions were assigned to a committee headed by Bertram Wall and George Fish Also noted John G Stone recently arrived at Gulfort Field for technical training with the Army Air Forces and was a former inspector at the Rubber Cafe and Colt Memorial High School graduate of 1939.

Riley Lamson Elected President of Couples Club

Riley Lamson was elected president of the Couples' Club of St Michael's Church at a Sunday election in the Holmes House. Ian M Walker was chosen vice president with Roger W. Pigeon as treasurer and Mrs Fred N Palmer as secretary. The next meeting is set for September 19 and members will join a quiz program.

Saviano Accepted To Yale Medical School

Gabrielle A Saviano son of School Committeeman and Mrs Vincent Saviano is accepted as a student at Yale University School of Medicine. He will graduate from Brown University on Oct 25 and earned Dean's List honors for outstanding scholarship. He previously graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1940.

Industrial Softball League Playoffs Open Tonight

Playoff action in the Industrial Men's Softball League starts at 5 45 this evening on the Common with a second game set for Thursday. Prudence Island Ferry Schedule Change Announced

The Prudence Island ferry will alter its timetable from Sept 8 to Oct 3. Weekdays use Bristol departure times of 7 10 and 3 45 with a 6 pm Friday trip. Saturday offers 10 am and 2 pm trips, while Sunday ferries depart Bristol at 10 am and return at 5 10 pm before the final island run. Olympia Victoria Proto engagement announced to Andrew DelToro. Police Pension Fund Shows Steady Growth Since Start

The Bristol Police Beneficial Association began a pension fund with a 1937 ball. Sergeant Walham T Cashin notes steady annual growth funded by six sources including a $500 annual appropriation and ticket sales. The fund is a pension plan for retirement or medical needs, not a relief fund, with no retirements yet and a ball planned for September 24 at the Bristol Casino.

Assault Wire Workers Outing At Leahy Grounds

The Assault Wire Department of the US Rubber Company held a Saturday outing at Leahy Picnic Grounds with chowder at noon, athletic contests in the afternoon, and a 4 PM chicken dinner. About 300 attendees included Wesley A. Armstrong, Thomas C. Jannsen, Fred T. Goff, and Alfred E. Newton. Newton of Laytex Towers won the informal horseshoe title, defeating Jannsen and Dom Vitiello. Other winners included Jane Somers and several named participants. committee members listed.
