Underground Pails Ordnance Passes At Town Council

After a health report by Dr C Paul Bruno and sanitarian Nicholas S Mander the council adopted an ordinance requiring underground garbage pails by April 1 1960. Councilman Ferris and President Sousa discussed timing while tensions rose with Mrs Vasta Ruggiero who criticized administration and questioned committee appointments. The council also received reports from departments on welfare works health building inspection private property signs and local taxes.

School Bus Schedule Details Opening Day Routes

Tentative transportation plan outlines morning bus routes for kindergarten through grade 12 students in several districts. Bus No 1 serves Elmwood through Rockwell area with 740 AM departure. buses 2 3 4 5 6 cover Metacom Avenue Butterworth Narrows Road Pappasquash and surrounding streets with 730 735 735 730 AM starts and late pickups up to 8 35 AM.

School Registration Shows Some Increase

Public schools will open next Wednesday with an anticipated enrollment of 1,743 pupils, said Edward J Fitzgerald, superintendent of schools. Senior high 457, junior high 420, elementary 866. Enrollment up 30 from last year, mainly in elementary grades. First grade expected 160 vs 119 a year ago. kindergarten up to 119 from 112. waiting list of 10 due to limited facilities at Oliver School. Births in 1953 cited as a reason. figures may rise with transfers from other towns. Hot lunch program starts Sept 14.

Police Photo Room to Be Installed at Burnside Annex

Police Chief Anthony J Fer Tara announced a basement photo room will house photographic gear at the Burnside annex. Patrolman Frank Brown will be official department photographer for accidents and similar cases, reducing reliance on outside services.

Swimming Draw More Than Ever

Vincent Securo, chairman of the Red Cross swimming programs in this town, reports total enrollment for the summer at 430. Of these 146 were at the Town Beach and 284 in four outlying areas Bristol Highlands Beach Terrace Cedarcrest and Union St. Enrollment at the Town Beach was higher than previous years and outlying areas had the best ever participation. Fourteen four children were awarded certificates for completing courses. Walter Swanson taught at the outlying beaches and Securo led at the Town Beach.

Saul Ricklin Named V. P. at Dixon Corp

Robert Rulon Miller announced Saul Ricklin was promoted to vice president in charge of Development at Dixon Corporation. Ricklin, former Director of Development since 1959, leads expansion of RULON and related fluorocarbon products for bearings, wear strips and electrical uses. He holds a Columbia chemical engineering degree, WWII OSS contract work, Brown University chemistry post, and carries several professional society affiliations.
