Walker Named Military Sales Manager at Kaiser Plant

Raymond A. Walker, longtime Bristol engineer and manager, was appointed military sales manager in the Electrical Conductor Division. He heads the New York Office handling wire cable and conduit sales to the military services. Walker served as lieutenant colonel with the War Production Board and the Army Signal Corps during WWII and holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Vermont. He is active in local politics with the Bristol Republican town committee and serves Red Cross and welfare agencies. He married with three children.

Patrolman Brown Certified Breath Analysis Operator

Patrolman Frank Brown of Bristol is now the town's certified breath analysis instrument operator after a two week course by the State Health Department and University of Rhode Island. Twenty two officers completed the program. Brown will be the sole certified operator to have readings admitted in court.

Kingsmen Paper Drive Termed Success

The Kingsmen Buele and Drum Corps held a successful paper drive last Sunday. Paper baling and weighing will precede transport to a paper mill once tasks finish. To accommodate all, the drive continues this week with pickup arranged via CL 3-8877 or by leaving bundles outside the Boy Scout Hall. Proceeds fund corps equipment.

St Alban's Lodge Plans October Get Together

St Albans Lodge of F and AM invites all St Albans named lodges to a gathering on October 10. Registration starts at 9 am with ladies' entertainment at St Michaels Parish House, bus departs at 2 pm, social hour at the National Guard Armory on Metacom Ave at 4 pm, dinner at 6:30 pm followed by an entertainment program.

Local Home Struck by Lightning in Bristol Highlands

Late Friday afternoon a house on Dana Road in Bristol Highlands owned by Minot J Crowell was struck by lightning. Firefighters reported a small roof entry over the front door and heavy acrid smoke filling the home. no damage beyond a roof hole was noted after the blaze was checked.

Pearson Plastic Corp reports no new steps in its search for new quarters. Clinton Pearson, president, says other towns and states remain in contact along with a few local interests.

Bristol Tax Bills Mailed Out This Week

Bristol town tax notices show 8 135 bills issued this week totaling 1 063 651 95. Tax rate is 24 80 and unpaid 1958 taxes stand at 42 116 30 as of June 30 1959. Northup stresses auto tax emphasis and prior year settlement is urged before 1959 bills.

Collins Pond to stay for winter skating says developer

Manuel M Carreiro, developer of the 18 acre Collins Pond site opposite North Cemetery, announces the pond will remain intact this winter for skating. He aims to avoid full destruction for now, hoping to create a park later with landowner cooperation. The area may become a recreation spot beyond skating, while a new 1850 foot sewer trunk line is installed to serve upcoming housing and a shopping center.
