Nicholas Matrone Sir, 22, of Bristol Rhode Island, served 24 months in the Navy aboard the destroyer Walke, anchored off Yokosuka after missions in Normandy, Ormoc Bay, Mindoro, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa. He joined the Walke in 1944 after enlisting in 1943 and earned multiple campaign ribbons.
