Comrade Bates Dies at Soldiers' Home at 86
Comrade George W Bates, one of the oldest inmates of the Soldiers Home, died there yesterday morning at 5.80. He had been in the hospital at the Home for several months, death due to old age. He served three years in Company A Second Rhode Island Infantry during the Civil War and was admitted to the home from Apponegansett on August 19 1900. He was born in Exeter Rhode Island and was a widower aged 86. His body was moved to Natick yesterday afternoon, with funeral to be held from his daughter’s home.
