Bristol man killed near Kettle Point in Providence accident

John Campbell a Bristol resident aged about 58 lived at 16 John Street and died instantly after being struck by a train near Kettle Point while returning to Bristol from East Providence. An Irish native and marine engineer by trade he had worked at Bristol and Warren Water Works and Merreshoff Manufacturing. He was unmarried with many local connections and belonged to St Alban's Lodge and Knights Templar.

Funerals Held for Local Residents in Providence and Brockton

Funeral services were held for Joseph H. Fish at 336 Dudley Street Providence with Rev Richardson officiating and burial at Oakland Cemetery. Mrs Mary Silvia of Narragansett Avenue died aged 44 and was buried at St Marys Cemetery after services at St Elizabeths. Comrade William E Woodworth from Soldiers Home was laid to rest in the North Cemetery with Rev A B Howard presiding. Charles Ashworth Ferguson, age 28, of Brockton whose body was brought here, was committally served at North Cemetery by Rev A B Howard.

Parade Plans for Rhode Island State Guard Unit

The Thirteenth Company Rhode Island State Guard will march in Providence tomorrow afternoon and drill at Dexter Training Ground at 3 o'clock. Members are ordered to report to the Naval Armory at 12 sharp with roll call at 12:20. A luncheon follows in Providence.

Bristol reports final Fourth Liberty Loan figures showing 4133 subscribers and 856,800 dollars, 214 percent of the 400,000 quota. Bristol, with 8565 residents per 1910 census, could win a name for a vessel or a fighting tank. winners to be announced after ten days. Rhode Island totals show 143,831 subscribers, 26 percent of population, with Barrington leading oversubscriptions at 187 percent.

Bristol Hotel Proprietor Fined for Liquor Sale

James F. McLaughlin small business owner of the Bristol Hotel faced Judge Arthur L. Brown in Providence on a charge of selling intoxicating liquor to men in Federal uniforms. He withdrew a not guilty plea and pleaded nolo contendere. witnesses were absent and, citing a good defense, the judge imposed a $50 fine.
