Congregational Club Aids Needy With Winter Clothing Drive

The First Congregational Church club organizes a goodwill industry to clothe the town’s poor for winter. Miss Miriam Skinner chairs the effort with Charles Dimond and Miss Gertrude Hasbrouck as officers. Districts and sub committees collect, alter, and repair discarded garments at the church parlors using sewing machines. Residents donate unused clothing through club members.

Birthday Party Hosted by Rita Langello

Rita Langello, seven, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Langello of Union Street, hosted a Halloween themed birthday party Wednesday afternoon at the family home. Twenty eight children attended with games, refreshments, and many gifts for the hostess.

Lemmon Speaks at Men’s Union Meeting on Immigration and West

S L Lemmon formerly of Philadelphia delivered a talk on Immigration and the Development of the West at the First Congregational Church Men’s Union gathering in DeWolf Memorial Chapel. Enoch Marsden and Mrs Cora Shaw Anderson sang, and William Ireland with Joseph DeLucca performed on accordion and violin. Wilfred LaBella accompanied the chorus. a clam chowder supper followed for about 50 members served by a committee including Henry Sanford and Daniel Bowron.

Trinity Church Harvest Festival Shines With Donations

The sixth annual Harvest Festival at Trinity Church drew a good sized congregation. The church interior glowed with fall decor including corn stalk arching the aisle and floral displays. Rev Nelson Kellogg officiated and Rev Herbert B Gwin preached. the choir presented music. Parishioners donated harvest products to be shared with local charities.

Legion Auxiliary Elects Officers and Plans Pinafore

At the Kearney Unit No. 6 Ladies' Auxiliary to the American Legion meeting, officers were elected and a January presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pinafore was voted. A committee including Mrs. Hope Cote and Miss Elizabeth Lynch will arrange the opera with local talent.

Lively Contest at Boys' Band Fair

The Bristol Boys' Community Band holds its third annual fair starting Saturday Nov 1 in Academy Hall Wood Street. A featured activity is competitive ticket sales by local young women with a $20 gold wrist watch prize for the top seller. Weekly standings will be announced during the fair, proceeds funding new band uniforms.

The Bristol Y M C A unveils a renovated interior with new toilet rooms showers and tiling. A bowling league of eight teams is expected to start, and a series of illustrated talks on American founders politics and patriotism will be held in December and January.

Enthusiasm ran high at the Boy Scouts dinner held Tuesday at the Hope street Scout building. H Bradford Field urged parent and adult cooperation to spur recruitment while Col Merton A Cheesman offered a watch for the top recruiter and District Commissioner George R Fish presided. Officers and troop leaders spoke as reports suggested many new members would join before Navy 1 deadline.
