Republicans announce Friday rally at Reynolds School with W Gurnee Dyer and John Murphy to speak. An auto cavalcade from Newport, with a torchlight parade and a seven pm arrival, leads to Ellis Hall. Democrats schedule October 30 dinner dance at New Highland Casino and November 1 and 4 rallies, with Lincoln Hall final.

World Community Day Observed at DeWolf Chapel

World Community Day will be observed in DeWolf Memorial Chapel on Friday November 1 at 2:30. Rev Carl Bare of Newport will speak on Under Heaven one family. Mrs John D Kettelle of Barrington heads the devotional service. The event is sponsored by the Protestant Churches of Bristol County.

Miss Emily Sousa Hosts Bridal Shower at Independent Hall

Miss Emily Sousa was honored with a bridal shower Sunday night at Independent Hall. Attended by many friends and relatives, the event was hosted by her sisters Ida and Alice Sousa. She will marry Manuel Olivena of Somerset, Massachusetts, on November 30 at 9 o'clock in St Elizabeth's Church.

Community Halloween Plans Advance in Kearney

The second annual Community Halloween celebration proceeds with $301 raised by the American Legion Post 6 fund drive. Prizes totaling 375 will be given to children, including 250 Civilian Defense helmets donated by J. Floyd Huestis. The parade begins at 7 30 from the Common, with ice cream candy and peanuts at the State Armory. The Anthony C Almeida Post 237 VFW offers help, and U S Rubber Company workers, led by Regina C Farley, assist with refreshments distribution.

Bristol Teachers Seek Public Backing for $600 Salary Hike

Bristol Teachers Association plans a public appeal to civic, fraternal and religious groups to endorse the Rhode Island Institute of Instruction proposal for a $600 annual teacher salary increase. A campaign committee led by Miss Helen Condon and others will meet to finalize plans. pensions and federation delegates noted.

A rally for workers is planned on November 6 at Colt Memorial Hall with moving pictures a speaker and other features. Lavina Fales Injured After Collision With Lumber Truck

Miss Lavina Fales 19 was injured when her car struck the rear of a Wardwell Lumber Co truck that had stopped to recover a fallen cement bag opposite 1061 Hope Street. Five stitches were needed for a forehead wound. R G Lambert 20 sustained a minor left hand injury.

Windy Friday Boats Run Aground At Harbor Head

High winds drove several vessels ashore at the harbor head including the 27 ft Bluefin owned by Paul C Nicholson Jr the 34 ft fishing boat of Joseph Vital a 22 ft power skiff owned by Daniel Rogers and a 28 ft fishing boat owned by William Caswell. The Bluefin burst moorings near Sousa’s Filling Station on Hope street and struck power lines cutting lights briefly as rescuers freed it. Vic Barlow and Ray Gladding fought to refloat the sloop, Gladding diving to free a tangled propeller before dawn the next day.

Richard Henry Pacheco, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Pacheco of 93 Franklin Street, marked his first birthday on Friday Oct 18. A party at the home hosted by his mother featured ten young cousins and friends with Halloween colored decorations. Gifts included money and other presents.

The Li’l Abner Lena the Hyena competition drew about 415000 submitted drawings in six days. Readers sent gruesome faces, some with three eyes and snakes for hair, prompting editor and publisher comments on a nationwide craze.
