Missing flyer Lt George H Wilson reported in European theater

First Lt George H Wilson, navigator of a bomber in the Rome raid, is reported missing in action in the European area since Oct 4. His wife and mother in law confirmed the telegram. Wilson, a Rhode Islander and recipient of the Air Medal, had a path from Colt Memorial High School to Army Air Corps service and foreign duty in June.

Local Welfare Agencies Share in United War Fund

The Bristol district groups the Bristol District Nursing Association Girl Scout Council Boy Scouts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and the Bristol Community YMCA seek support in the Rhode Island United War Fund drive November 4 to 17. The Visiting Nurses logged 4394 nursing visits last year with maternity work 591 tuberculosis visits and 2907 people at clinics and immunizations. The YMCA has expanded youth recreation and hosts a service men dormitory and dances while improving facilities funded in part by USO and United War Fund. Chairman Elmer S Mapes urges Bristol residents to contribute to aid local agencies and national war relief groups including the USO United Seamen's Service and War Prisoners' Aid.

WAC Office Opens at YMCA For Recruitment Drive

The YMCA hosts the Womens Army Corps recruiting events on Wednesday and Thursday in Newart and Bristol Counties with Katherine S Duval directing from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The drive aims to enlist 70 000 girls to replace battle casualties and free men for desk jobs while also supporting draft stability. Mrs Witham P Gladding could not take the civilian chair due to prior duties.

Josephine E Marshall to Leave for WAC Training Center

Mrs Josephine E Marshall wife of Pastor Richard Marshall now overseas in India will depart next Thursday for the WAC Training Center in Georgia. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Vincent Chiariello of 42 Centre Street and formerly employed by Bristol Manufacturing Corporation. A farewell party was held Sunday by Mary Gomes Andreade Soares Ponticelli Almeida and Witt.

Port Arthur Name Tied to Bristol Naval Guest Story
