A wartime drive asks Rhode Island households to pile metal scraps curbside by 8 a.m. Sunday Oct 24. Volunteers will collect from attics, cellars, garages, yards and farms, with detailed item lists from beds and appliances to tools and vehicle parts, excluding wood, leather, glass, enamel, porcelain, and tin cans.

Bristol residents asked to donate furniture and home goods to furnish a recreational room for servicemen on a harbor island. Requested items include couches chairs lamps tables radios phonograph records piano ping pong set and other magazine and book storage. Donations contact Mrs Clara Diman at 266-W.

Registration for Ration Book Four will be held Thursday and Friday this week. Residents south of Bradford Street register at Reynolds School and those north of Bradford will register at Guileras School. Hours are 10 am to 8 pm. James F. E. Sullivan and John I. Burke are the site administrators per FE. S Mapes, general supervisor of registration. Ration books issued at registration.
Bristol organizers announce a single United War Fund drive from November 4 to 17 aligning local campaigns. Mapes urges donors to compute gifts as a group, citing a local club example that would donate between 35 and 40 dollars under the new combined scheme. He notes higher needs for USO and foreign relief. The plan urges one hour weekly per worker for 12 weeks, a model behavior adopted by 98 percent of State factories. The Bristol campaign committee lists chairmen and division heads.
Plans were laid Sunday by the Mothers Club of St Mary’s Church for a bridge whist fundraiser set for November 8 at the K of C Hall. Committees under chairmen Mrs Frederick Serbst and other listed members will organize tickets prizes tables chairs and refreshments with a special committee meeting in the church auditorium after the Novena.

Pvt Andrew H Noronha Jr son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Noronha of 720 Hope Street has been officially reported missing in action in the North African theatre. He was a 1939 Colt Memorial High School graduate and had worked at the Lobster Pot and then in the Wire Division of US Rubber Co prior to induction.
Promoted Staff Sergeant John P Gilroy, assigned to a fighter squadron at Orlando Air Base Florida, has been promoted to technical sergeant. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Peter E Gilroy of 130 Metacom Avenue. Gilroy attended Colt Memorial High School and worked in the electrical department of U S Rubber Company before joining the Air Corps.
Christopher DelSesto state director of the Office of Price Administration urged Bristol Teachers Association members to aid price control to curb the black market. He said price control reduces taxation and aids postwar rationing while Elmer S. Mapes detailed Ration Book No. 4 registrations set for Thursday and Friday. Members voted a $10 contribution to the United War Fund and planned a November 16–17 movie screening.
Navy reports Lt. Robert Vhoore McGann missing following action on October 6. He piloted a Grumman Hellcat and participated in Wake Island and Marcus Island raids. Son of Mrs. Isabelle McGann of 67 High Street, he graduated from RI State College in 1941 and Colt Memorial High School in 1937. He has siblings Edith, Oliver, Earl, and Winston.
