Farley Departing For Chicago Honored By Employer

Capt John J Farley left for Chicago to lead the druggists sundries department at Morgan Wright Rubber Co factory He received gold cuff buttons each set with a diamond from his employer in recognition of his service Battle Flags Day in Providence featured a Civil War veterans parade and flag transfer to the new State House Bristol sent many veterans, with Henry F Card among flag bearers, while militia units provided escort and ceremony support to mark the historic event.

Gift to Captain Farley from Rubber Co employees

William F. Connery presented the gift on behalf of the department staff and voiced best wishes for his success in a new field. Captain Farley expressed thanks as suited to the surprise. Sunday night friends visited his Wood street home for music and a ten dollar gold piece was presented by J Higgins on behalf of his young men friends.

Sunday Men’s Meeting Spotlighted By Purpose Address

The first Sunday afternoon meeting drew good attendance with Rev W H Watsen delivering a strong talk on Purpose in Life. Music by the Congregational church choir plus soloists Mrs Dimond and Mrs Green enhanced the service. Next week Hon N W Littlefield will speak on Redeeming the Time. Bowling plans grow as captains recruit, alleys to be planed before November 8. Football men to meet Wednesday at 7:30 for a game against River Point.

A Devoe & Co letter to Morris Bros recounts Dooley the painter from Lancaster NH underbuying by using 11 gallons instead of 20 for an Episcopal parsonage. L F Moore, the agent, offered 10 gallons and the extra one solved the job. The note ends with a quip about aging and a joke about losing a collar button.
