The Armistice Day committee met at the Hotel Belvedere and discussed parade participation from Garden rod Troop Bristol Girl Scouts Stark Parker Post American Legion East Providence and Neo Sicilia Se cuty Sons of Italy. The group considered drum corps from El Karum Temple No 45 and local officials agreed a three signal blasts plan with the National India Rubber Company.
Joseph Bruno proprietor of a Bradford street restaurant pleaded not guilty to a secret indictment charging murder in the slaying of Antone Pros Me Detroit shot before the restaurant on October 6. He was held without bail in Providence Superior Court. He faced an additional indictment for assault with intent to murder with bail set at 5000. Ten material witnesses appeared for the murder case and were bound to appear as needed, with several men from Fall River and Warren held on various bails.
James T. Pierce was nominated by the Democrats to stand for the Second District seat after Jo Howard Paull declined. The nomination followed several days of debate among four prospective candidates and committee members at the Hotel Belvedere. Pierce, a long-time Democratic town committee member, faces Republican rival Alexander Fakes, former treasurer of the local Republican town committee.
Mrs Margaret Jo Morris heads Regent of Hope Circle Number 70 Daughters of Isabella as Grand Army Hall hosts installation by State Regent Mrs Mary J Condon. New officers include Vice Regent Miss Winifred C Walsh and Chaplain Rev Thomas Jallan. A minstrel show and chicken salad supper are planned for January, with New Haven headquarters dedication next Sunday.
Horace Reynolds pleaded guilty to an assault on Chief Hugh F. Kelles before Judge Frank Ho Hammill and was fined with costs as Reynolds’s wife testified to threats. Clara Bassing denied violating a town ordinance after vegetable matter was deposited in the street. case continued. In civil matters Alfred Di Lauro won a judgment for 214.8 dollars against Nicholas Castriotta, while Bo Monette Companies case against A Janson was continued.
Mrs William I Manchester state regent of Rhode Island D A R will attend state regents and national board meetings while Mrs John T Cranshaw of Providence joins an advisory committee for Constitution Hall. They will attend receptions in Washington and Philadelphia during the Sesqui Centennial exposition.
The Town Council adopted a new parking ordinance requiring parking along the east side of Haye Street from Franklin to Constitution Streets, effective today. It bans stopping on the west side of Hope Street in the business district except parallel to the curb, forbids stopping abreast of another vehicle in the compact area, and imposes fines from two to twenty dollars for violations.
The American Legion Auxiliary Kearnes Unit No 6 will host an annual harvest supper Thursday at Grand Army Hall from 5 to 7 pm with baked beans ham potato salad rolls pie and coffee. Tickets are available from the secretary Miss Nora E Dwyer or committee members or at the door. A regular semi monthly business meeting follows at 8 pm and all members are urged to attend.
Charles R. Maxfield a Warren ice cream dealer faced two indictments for murder among 168 true bills returned by the Providence and Bristol counties grand jury. He is held on $70,000 bail for the July 13 killing of Barrington youths Angelo Cuzzoni and Louis Di Christophéne who stopped at his store to change a tire.
Arthur Whitney Howe of this town and Philadelphia announces the engagement of his daughter Rosemary Denckla Howe to Thomas Morris Avery son of Mrs. James H. Kidder of Newport. Miss Howe attended Miss Wheeler's School Providence. Mr Avery is a Harvard 1921 graduate and member of the Tennis Tuxedo Knickerbocker Somerset Clubs. No wedding date yet.
C Harold Newman was elected President and Chester R Burgess chosen secretary treasurer at the Trinity Church rectory for the annual meeting. The secretary treasurer reports the club is prosperous and a seven member committee was formed to study staging H M S Pinafore in the near future. The club holds meetings the third Wednesday of each month with 751 members.
