Exemption Denied for Herreshoff Company Employee
Nathaniel G. Herreshoff Jr., electrician foreman at Herreshoff Manufacturing, had his army service exemption denied by the State District Board at the State House. The board found he is not indispensable as the firm builds wooden patrol boats on Government contract, despite affidavits and letters urging exemption. Victor Irving Maller, also with the company, was similarly denied on industrial grounds. A scrutineer noted support for exemption to avoid crippling the business.
