The Goodwill Industry committee of the First Congregational Church collected garments valued at $162. Miss Gertrude M Has Brouk executive secretary of the local Red Cross Chapter received the items and expressed strong satisfaction. Eyewitness to Russia speaks on living conditions in the Soviet

Rev Samuel M. Lindsay of Brookline will present Russia the Story of An Eyewitness at the First Congregational Church in Bristol. The event opens a seven part series on current topics with music by local artists. Lindsay toured Soviet Russia for three weeks and reports on social and religious life, including a state permit required for women to bear children and union approvals for maternity leave, noting 4500 refusals in Moscow last year.

Fall River Men Arrested for Sugar Theft

Three Fall River men George Oliver Edward Pelton and Isadore Belovitz were arrested at gunpoint early Sunday by Patrolman Henry J Sylvia Jr as they prepared to steal 74 100 lb bags of sugar from a Thompson avenue garage. They faced breaking and entering charges and were held on $5000 bail awaiting Fifth District Court Monday morning.

Bristol Sewer Plan Backed After Woonsocket Trial

The Bristol Sewer Commission met with Prof H K Barrows to discuss sewage disposal plans for a new plant. Barrows said no danger of a Woonsocket style accident due to sludge treatment differences and attributed the Woonsocket incident to employee carelessness. The commission and other engineers will meet again this week.

General Relief Committee Given Use of Vacant Store

The General Relief Committee has been offered a vacant State street store for its headquarters by Mr Joseph Sodim. Director of Public Aid Mrs Vasta Ruggeiro will also use it as an application office, relieving the need to run from home. Beginning next Monday hours will be daily 1 to 4 except weekends.

Swansea A L Post Home Dedication Draws Large Crowd

The Swansea Post 303 American Legion dedication drew over 35 members from nearby posts. Judge Edward L. Leahy spoke as a principal figure while a parade and bugle drum corps contest followed, with New Bedford Fort and Fights winning first prize and Fall River Girls Scouts second.

Battery C marksmen and sharpshooters at Rumford range

The 57 enlisted men and 3 officers fired the season with 16 qualified as marksmen and 5 as sharpshooters. Capt Moren and Taent J Garvin led sharpshooters with 222 high score. 2nd Lieut McMillan and others led marksmen with 211. Battery placed fourth in state team match. Adjutant General's trophy won by Manuel Morris with 202.

Italian Minister to Speak at DeWolf Memorial Chapel Sunday

Rev Dr Re pastor of Federal Hill Italian Baptist Church will deliver a sermon Sunday evening in DeWolf Memorial Chapel Congregational Church. He is expected to honor Christopher Columbus and will be joined by youths from his church who attended a Kingston conference. The Christian Endeavor Society sponsors. English will be the main language with a short message in Italian for native speakers.

Army Captain Involved In Hope Street Car Crash

Albert I Johnson a Fort Adams Army captain collided with a northbound Short Line bus on Hope street while driving a Buick. He swerved into an electric light pole, received facial and leg injuries, and was arrested for operating under the influence with bail set at 500 dollars. The case was continued one week.

Chief Sullivan Speaks on Fire Prevention Week at Lions Club

Chief Jeremiah Sullivan of the Fall River Fire Department addressed Lions Club members on Fire Prevention Week observance. He warned homes and businesses about fire hazards, urged rubbish removal, proper wiring practices, and noted the 500+ firefighters and 58 apparatus involved in a historic Fall River blaze.
