New England Dinner Enjoyed by Bristol Train of Artillery
More than 100 members of the Bristol Train of Artillery attended a New England dinner Monday evening in the State street armory hosted by Lieut. Col. Edwin S. Godfrey. Speakers included Col. A M Merriman and Judge Edward L Leahy among others. The event celebrated battalion accomplishments and outlined plans for a rifle team season with Captains Hambrick Bennett Hartley Bullock and Canning appointed.

Grand Chancellor Paul A Herzig and staff visited Burnside Lodge No 34 Knights of Pythos in town. The event drew more than 10 members and guests at A R Hall with a musical program and speeches. Edgehill Temple Pythian Sisters performed songs and the Olmesville Artists presented a comedy sketch. Plans were announced for Mardi Gras at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet on Oct 15 and the first public whist party on Oct 28. Social committee refreshments were provided chaired by Charles F Luther.

The joint Armistice Day committee met at the YMC A library to name judges and set rules for bugle and drum corps and drill team contests on the common. They invited all Legion units and Ladies Auxiliary drill teams to participate and received a Town Council letter of acceptance. The secretary was instructed to invite civic and patriotic organizations.

Changes Announced in Blowing of Factory Whistle
The National India Rubber Co announces new whistle and bell schedule effective October 12, 1931. Whistles blow at 7 a.m. noon 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 5:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. are discontinued and no whistle is blown on Saturday. Warning bells at 6:50 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. and hourly night signals are cancelled.

Child Dies From Burns At St Josephs Hospital
Four year old Olivia Gaspar daughter of Mr and Mrs Manuel Gaspar of 9 Ryan avenue fatally burned when her clothing caught fire playing with matches in the yard. She died at St Josephs Hospital Providence after being removed by Medical Examiner Dr John R Bernardo.

Fire Destroys Barn on Metacom Avenue
A barn on 137 Metacom Avenue owned by Frank Francis was destroyed by fire last evening. Fire crews removed a large still and mash from the barn before protecting measures failed. Police questioned Francis about ownership and operation of the still as a 20 year old son admitted helping remove the evidence. Francis may be summoned by Police Chief Kavanaugh for further questioning.
