Oregon the battleship fades in Yokohama salvage yard

The once famous Oregon battleship is decaying in a Yokohama salvage yard after a chain of sales from U S government to a Guam salvage firm and then to a Japanese company. Built in 1848, it once steamed from Pacific to Atlantic to battle Spain, and its final fate is to yield high grade steel rather than be scrapped as a war relic.

Piemontese Family Reunited After Long Immigration Hold

Bristol sailor Matthew D Piemontese welcomed his wife Carmen and infant daughter to New York after a six month delay caused by a minor health issue. Breakwater Plea Reaches U S Army at Newport Hearings

At a Newport hearing on Narragansett Bay hurricane protection the Bristol harbor commission urged an amendment to the Army Corps study and cited hurricane damage. Bristol trio returns from 9000 mile California trip

Mr and Mrs Sidney Herreshoff and Mrs Elizabeth Church Chase returned Tuesday night from a month long auto journey to California visiting Ensign Halsey Herreshoff and Nathanael G Herreshoff in Westtown Pa. The travelers, three Bristolians, passed through 24 states on the voyage totaling 9000 miles.

Bristol High School Athletic Association elects new officers

Anthony Nastri was elected president of the Bristol Senior High School Athletic Association on Wednesday. Other officers include Anna Mae Squatrito as vice president, Joyce Squatrito secretary, Anna Cavallaro treasurer, Julia Card assistant treasurer, Cynthia Burke senior representative, Rosalind Matherson junior representative, and Peter Sansone sophomore representative. Carl Carlson serves as advisor. Sophomores Maria Oliveira and Patricia Biancuzzo were elected cheerleaders joining seniors Vickie Balzano and Marcia Murgo and juniors Marie Maturie and Mary Lou Cavallaro. The Legion meets tonight at 8 p.m. at the post home on Franklin Street, with a joint officer installation tomorrow at 8 p.m. The public is invited.
