Lower Constitution Street residents celebrate two hour parking rules that ended daily street jams. Police spot checks issued tickets to violators, and by yesterday the street was nearly car free except for those observing metered limits. Residents hailed the quiet return to neighborhood harmony and respect for homeowners.
The Bristol Highway Department reports progress on seven survey projects. A $6000 drainage project between Francis Street and Wall Street near Carr Mfg. Co. to Buttonwood is nearly done, with 822 feet of pipe laid and four catch basins to be installed. Also noted were road and rock ledge work on Rosita Ave and Broad Common cleanup efforts including trash removal and mosquito ditch digging.
The Space Rangers Bowling League opened at Dudek Bowling Alleys Waren with four teams the Nikes Missiles Jets and Rockets. Rockets beat Jets 1622 to 1573 and Nikes defeated Missiles 1756 to 1629. Highs included Cabral 138 Blouin 114 Figureid 327 Catallano 307.
Nicholas Mancelli says many residents still unaware of the September 24 ordinance requiring rubbish cans removed from curbs within 24 hours after trash pickup and fitted with tight covers to deter rain and vermin. He notes health benefits and urges public support for the program led by Dr. Paul Bruno and Mancelli.
Rego And Sons Construction Co. won the Bristol Sewer Commission bid for the Manchester Street sewer extension at $2,450 to install asbestos pipe and cement block manholes. The project requires an easement from Mrs. Frank M. Mancieri and involves 600 feet of pipe and two manholes. Taxpayers approved $5,000 for this extension, the sole project this fiscal year.
The town council acted on issues from sewer work on Fales Road prompted by the Bayside Shores Improvement Association. It ordered Rego & Sons to fix washboard road conditions, advised a private lot owner to remove a hazardous dirt mound, and agreed to survey residents about regrading and seeding. Police were tasked to curb dumping on Broad Common Road and council discussed sidewalk and tree concerns near Mt Carmel School. The Army Corps of Engineers reported plans for two piers at The Castle with no objections.
Bristol County records the start of the High Holy Days with Rosh Hashanah observances. United Brothers Synagogue at 205 High St Bristol schedules services at 7 p m and 9 a m led by Arthur Gewirtz of Morrisville Penn, a Yeshiva University Brooklyn College and Columbia graduate.
