Thomas D. Adams Jr. led a Rotary Club discussion at the White Rail urging continued local support for the Red Feather campaign. He praised volunteers, noted a $20,800 goal, and announced Red Feather Sunday on October 18, stressing house to house solicitation as key to Bristol’s leading community status.
Bristol Senior High School elected officers and class representatives for the Athletic Association. John Josephs was named president with Manuel Marshall as vice president, Patricia Bullock as assistant treasurer, Edith Anderton as secretary, Hortense D Alessio as senior representative, Santina Pagano as junior representative, and Grace Notarangelo as sophomore representative. Sophomore cheerleaders are Emily Simmons and Louise Castigliego. faculty advisor is Carl T. Carlson.
After a devotional service the society read reports and elected officers: First Directress Mrs Stephen W Hopkins Second Directress Mrs William H Angervine Secretary Miss Agnes M Herreshoff Treasurer Mrs Franklin H Springer Ass’t Treasurer Miss Miriam J McCaughey. Board members include Mrs M Stuart Barr Miss Martha Graham and Mrs Robert M Huey. Miss Miriam W Skinner and Miss Gerrude D Drury retired after long terms of service, Skinner forty years on the board and twenty five as First Directress, Drury thirty six years with many as Second Directress. The board honored them with corsages for faithful service.
A notice reports portable flashing stop signs to be placed near the school area. School Superintendent Edward Fitzgerald says a safety committee meeting will be held next week to speed up securing the devices. The committee, including school board members, clergy and public officials, had delayed awaiting a supplier. Volunteers for extra supervision at crossing points were sought before school start and after dismissal.
Conflicting statements from Bristol Water Authority chairman Jerome Donovan and Bristol County Water Company manager Fred Stradling over a meeting the authority says Stradling agreed to hold this month. Donovan says Stradling refused to discuss. the authority plans to petition the Public Utilities Administrator for investigation of extension, rates, and service areas.
Council 379 bristol Knights of Columbus will host a chicken and lobster dinner Tuesday evening at the Midway Steak and Lobster House from 7 30 to 9 p m. Co chairmen Joseph A Cavallaro and Salvatore Massano past grand knights announced last night. August Gibbemeyer is secretary treasurer of the committee and Frank Raiola heads the program committee. Charles F McHugh leads entertainment and publicity. The committee includes many members such as Peter Pacheco Domenic Altruia Salvatore Altrua Anthony Principe Anthony Pinheiro and others.
The New England Council led 75 members on its seventh annual research tour to C and A Plant J in Bristol. They viewed product displays, heard Percy Chance discuss manufacturing, and saw a new fabric called spot-shed velvet. Chance highlighted textile prospects in New England and expansion plans.
The statement notes a quota of 1300 dollars and a target to contact all small businesses in the county. Mr Adams says complete coverage of the entire county is necessary and many small businesses are on the quest, with plans to finish outreach by campaign end.
Angelo Pozzi, affiliated with the Industrial Trust Company for almost 30 years, assumed duties yesterday as assistant manager at the Bi branch of the statewide bank institution. Roger A. Alland served as assistant manager. Gale Ere contributed to the report.
