Deer Killed in Bristol Auto Crash First on Record
A 200 pound five point buck was struck and killed by a car near the Lobster Pot on Hope Street in Bristol. Kenneth J. Fryar, 17, a sailor at Newport, drove south when the deer leaped into his car’s path. The deer was dispatched to the Rhode Island Veterans Home, and the incident prompted a Fish and Game report.

He joined a memorial observance for World War II dead as a member of the 657th Quartermaster Aerial Supply Company, the only American parachute unit in today. He also helped celebrate the ninth anniversary of the liberation of the city by the Marines during World War II. Local residents who helped drive out the Germans greeted the 82d Airborne division troopers who jumped in September 1944. The event included the dedication of a new hospital building for the 82d Airborne Division, a street parade with the 557th, and the lighting of a large freedom fire on a key battleground site.
