Reserve Artillery Unit May Be Formed Here

Captain Joseph F. Bullock announced a possible active reserve field artillery battery in Bristol. If 21 eligible men join, the unit would join the 302nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 76th Infantry Division. Veterans and youths eligible, contact Bullock at 1 Border Street or call 846.

Car Skids Hit Pole Injuring Two on Hope Street

At 8 a m yesterday Manuel Correnza 16 of 7 Doran avenue drove on Hope street opposite Rockwell School skidding onto the curb and ramming a pole that snapped. Passenger John Sylvester 22 of 33 Elizabeth street suffered abrasions to his left leg and thigh and was treated. Correnza was taken to a doctor after receiving two stitches for a scalp laceration.

Charter group reports surplus of 60 signatures

Domenic P Perroni secretary of the charter commission says about 575 voters had signed by last Friday, well over the 518 required under Home Rule Amendment. The group will meet to check petitions and plans to present them to the Town Council on December 6 at the regular meeting.

USS Hyman Hit By Enemy Fire in Korean Waters

The destroyer USS Hyman was struck by Red shore batteries in Wonsan harbor on Saturday with no casualties among officers or crew. Debris and shrapnel caused only minor damage, according to Far East naval headquarters. the incident followed a visit by the ships to Bristol last Fourth of July.

Fire Nearly Destroys Cottage on Wall Street Yesterday

A short circuit sparked a blaze that nearly destroyed a frame cottage on Francis Street off Wall Street yesterday afternoon. The second story, owned by Elia Giusti of Wood Street, burned as firefighters arrived. the Botelho family resided there. Fire Chief Norman J. Servant noted a child attempted to turn on a light upstairs, causing sparks and flames. A northwest wind aided the fire, and crews stretched a line to East State Street for water. Carr Manufacturing Corp. workers linked their fencing fire system to assist. The home is insured, but its furnishings are not.

Michael Deleo Urges Aid for Po Valley Flood Victims

Michael A DeLeo national commander of the Italian American World War Veterans urged immediate local campaigns to raise money clothing and food for Po Valley flood victims. He spoke at a testimonial dinner in Waterbury Connecticut attended by 300 veterans from Connecticut Massachusetts and Rhode Island. DeLeo cited 200 deaths and 300000 homeless and called for Italy Allies peace treaty revisions. Florio Post Waterbury hosted the event with John DePastino as arrangements chairman.

Bristol Blizzard Anniversary Recall 1898 Event

This note marks the 53rd anniversary of Bristol's severe blizzard of November 27, 1898. Snowdrifts six to seven feet, downed trees and wires, and halted travel left the town in chaos with churches and schools affected as residents began clearing paths and restoring services.
