Car Skids Hit Pole Injuring Two on Hope Street
At 8 a m yesterday Manuel Correnza 16 of 7 Doran avenue drove on Hope street opposite Rockwell School skidding onto the curb and ramming a pole that snapped. Passenger John Sylvester 22 of 33 Elizabeth street suffered abrasions to his left leg and thigh and was treated. Correnza was taken to a doctor after receiving two stitches for a scalp laceration.

A short circuit sparked a blaze that nearly destroyed a frame cottage on Francis Street off Wall Street yesterday afternoon. The second story, owned by Elia Giusti of Wood Street, burned as firefighters arrived. the Botelho family resided there. Fire Chief Norman J. Servant noted a child attempted to turn on a light upstairs, causing sparks and flames. A northwest wind aided the fire, and crews stretched a line to East State Street for water. Carr Manufacturing Corp. workers linked their fencing fire system to assist. The home is insured, but its furnishings are not.
