Spar Leaves For Repairs In Baltimore

The Coast Guard ship Spar departed Bristol for about a month of repairs in Baltimore. Chief Petty Officer Robert L. Power said it will be away with a crew of 48 including five officers. The 180 foot vessel arrived from Woods Hole and was transferred to Bristol on June 1.

Sarah Martin to Represent Bristol High in Voice of Democracy

Miss Sarah Martin, a Bristol Senior High School senior, was chosen to represent the school in a Sunday speech contest in Providence tied to the Voice of Democracy. She topped five entrants from the Public Speaking Group at Monday’s assembly, with topics on I Speak for Democracy. Other contestants included Cecelia Perry, Carole Magee, Margaret Marchester, and Delphina Oliver. The four co equal winners travel to Washington for the final national contest, meeting the President, and receive a $500 scholarship each.
