Chief Hugh F Welles tendered his resignation at a special town council session called to review police matters. Council President Henry W. Petersen said the resignation was voluntary and to take effect December 31. The council accepted it with regret and said a new chief will be chosen soon to address alleged department laxity and friction.
Thanksgiving in Bristol featured clear cold weather and multiple services at St Michaels Trinity and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Dinners were distributed to over 40 families by the Bristol Boy Scouts and the Ive Guild with help from the District Nursing Association and deputy commissioner George Robish.
State Regent Mrs Manchester spoke at Froebel Hall for the annual guest day of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Rhode Island representative Mrs Pomeroy Tabor and Bristol Chapter Regent Mrs Clanton T Sherman attended along with other guests and members.
The National Headquarters unveils a blue background seal featuring three minstrel carolers on a white shield and a double barred cross emblem for tuberculosis work. Charles B Rockwell Jr, chair of the Seal Committee, notes that while imitators exist, this is the only seal that directly funds Bristol tuberculosis efforts.
Senior class at Colt Memorial High School entertained juniors in the auditorium at 4 PM Tuesday. Louis Evans welcomed attendees. Francisco Canaria provided piano selections and Charles M Morgan sang pieces. The event included games, dancing, faculty attendance, and refreshments.
