Fire devastates dog officer's home on Metacom Ave

A general alarm fire damaged the interior of 677 Metacom Ave, home of Dog Officer John Delgardo. His wife and two children were away. the blaze, possibly starting in the chimney, destroyed most furniture and clothing. The family sheltering in a temporary trailer due to the fire, neighbors offering aid as Delgardo plans to rebuild soon. Dogs were rescued despite smoke.

Collection to Benefit Fire Victims at Bristol Town Hall

The Bristol Harborside CB Club holds a drive for John Delgardo family hurt by a fire this week. Coffee hour and drop at Bristol Town Hall Court St Saturday Nov 19 10 am to 7 pm. Donations include towels blankets clothing appliances furniture and cash. Boys size 8 slim and girls size 10-12. After Saturday, donations may be left at Bristol Police Station or Bristol Motor Lodge.

Rhode Island man backs Panama Canal Treaty after briefing

Alan Guimond of Rhode Island joined a dozen residents in a Washington briefing with President Carter and aides on November 7. He said his skepticism faded as he learned the U S does not own the canal and that treaty rights grant control of the 600 square mile Panama area rather than outright ownership.
