Loving Cup Presented to Lieut Col Merton A Chessman by Bristol Train
Commissioned officers of the Bristol Train of Artillery hosted a Wednesday evening reception at the Armory in honor of fair organizers. About 160 guests enjoyed dancing from 8:30 to midnight and a collation at 10:30. A large silver loving cup on an ebony stand was presented to Lieut. Col. Merton A. Chessman by members of the company. Col. O. H. Straight, a former colonel, spoke before delivering the cup. Major Charles W. Abbott Jr. attended as a guest along with officers from Providence. The event featured a well-decorated platform with palms and Lavey’s Imperial Orchestra providing music.
