Community Christmas Plan Gathers Post Support

A Kearney Post American Legion committee votes to stage a community wide Christmas observance in Bristol. Plans call for four life size Nativity displays on the Common with lighting and community carols led by church choirs. Organizers seek broad local backing and extra volunteers as in the Halloween effort with tentative events on December 23.

Town council debated building enforcement conflict on Hope street

Inspector Roger Pigeon presented a complaint about lax enforcement of building and zoning laws. He cited Borges who he says ignores rulings and threatens a large garage near Pigeon’s home, with Town Solicitor Capone redirecting the issue to the Zoning Board of Review.

Council defers plan until Building Inspector Bailey present

The council discussed a plan approved by Mr Otis and Building Inspector Mr Bailey. After heated debate it was agreed that no action could proceed without Bailey's presence, and the matter was postponed to the next council meeting for all parties to attend.

Schools to Sell Victory Bond Units in Rhode Island

Public schools will join next week in the Victory Loan Drive with 3 to 6 pm sales hours on Wednesday and Thursday. Teachers will serve one hour daily at their schools, with some assigned special roles. Acting Supt James E. Sullivan called Rhode Island schools to sponsor 700 Convalescent Hospital Units costing 3000 each to aid postwar care, urging Bristol schools to raise 3000 for one hospital unit bearing the school name.

Council Invited To Inspect Sewage Plant Visit

Chairman Anthony Dupont urged the Town Fathers to tour the Sewage Disposal Plant to view improvements and remaining needs. President Huestis confirmed prior inspection, and the Sewer Commission Chairman invited Budget Committee members to join.

New Member and Guest Night At Collins and Alman Girls Club

About 50 guests and members attended the New Member and Guest night at the Collins and Alman Girls Club on Thames street. Mrs Albert T Fusome entertained with whistling and selections. Arthur Mercer sang bass solos, Mrs Frank Rounds accompanied, and Joseph E McCann Jr played piano for his mother Mrs Marjorie McCann. Refreshments served by a committee chaired by Mrs Marjorie McCann with Mrs Eliza Lepper, Mrs Laura Sousa, Mrs Sadie Almeida, and Miss Peggy Morris.

Abenante Brothers Return from War Service

Cpl Louis Abenante and Ralph Abenante are discharged from service. Louis served 43 months in the Army with 85 points and Hawaii posting, earning the Good Conduct Medal. Ralph spent three years in the Navy aboard a destroyer, serving in Pacific invasions and earning multiple ribbons with 50 points.
