Strong Defence Emphasized by Bertram W Wall at Gunteras Memorial

National Executive Committeeman Bertram W Wall of the American Legion urged strong national defence in future wars during an address to students and faculty at Gunteras Memorial junior high school. He reviewed Miami Legion convention highlights, outlined the South’s geography and the Legion’s future program. Armistice Day observances featured a school orchestra, flag salute, and songs including The Star Spangled Banner and Keep the Home Fires Burning.

Vested Pawtucket Choir to Sing at Bristol Sunday Night

The Smith Avenue Congregational Church choir from Pawtucket will perform at 7 30 pm in the First Congregational Church auditorium Bristol The 28 boys are helped by eight men providing bass and tenor rhythm They wear purple cassocks and white surplices The event is under the Intermediate Christian Endeavor Society and will be followed by an after service social at Giunteras House.

Auto collision injures Redfern. Viscione in Warren crash

James H Redfern and Rose Viscione were in separate cars that collided Sunday at Metacom and Mount Hope in Warren. Redfern sustained minor forehead and cheek injuries. no other occupants were hurt. Redfern was later summoned to Bristol District Court to answer reckless driving charges.

Fall River Death Mystery Involving Irene Rice Case

Irene Rice a 34 year old Boston secretary died from carbon monoxide poisoning at the Bristol Highlands cottage of Edmund S Rex a Providence lawyer and accountant after a gin drink and a heater incident. Rhode Island and Massachusetts police investigate while Rex also seeks treatment for poisoning.

Bristol Armistice Day Observance Ends With Colorful Victory Ball

Bristol capped its Armistice Day observance with a three day event ending in the Casino’s Victory Ball. About 300 guests attended as Kearney Post and auxiliary hosted a turkey supper and memorial services. A parade and foot race highlighted Sunday activities with veterans and Gold Star Mothers among the dignitaries.

One Mile Foot Race Opens Bristol Parade Observance

More than 500 spectators gathered on Bristol Common to watch a one mile foot race as part of the parade observance. Four contestants competed with John Sylvia 16 a La Salle Academy sophomore winning by at least 75 yards over runner up Bill Furtardo. Fred Riccio and Nunzio Ascoli finished third and fourth. Prizes awarded to the top three.
