Bristol Sewer Commission Moves to Disconnect Roof Water

The Bristol Sewer Commission begins a campaign to divert roof water from the sanitary sewer system. Homeowners and business property owners are urged to disconnect roof water outlets to reduce overflows, prevent harbor pollution, and help town beach plans. A 60 day deadline and a signed application are requested.

Red Cross Service Stripes Awarded for 150 Hours

Red Cross Service Stripes to be awarded to surgical dressing workers sewers and knitters who served 150 hours or more from July 1 1942 to Oct 1 1943. Award ceremony Friday at 8 pm in Holmes House with Nancy Dyer and G R S Killam presiding. Miss Dyer will give a short talk Canon Parshley will preside Bristol Branch chair attended.

Mapes Re-Elected Institute Vice President

E S Mapes was re elected vice president of the Rhode Island Institute of Instruction at its annual meeting in Providence. Miss Marguerite Brogan, Byfield School principal, joined the Board of Directors. Tessie Molasky became NEC Convention alternate delegate and led the high school library division. Public schools closed Thursday and Friday to allow teacher attendance.

Police Chief Reports Hallowe'en Destruction Breaks Records

Local property owners suffered severe damage in a Hallowe'en spree. Five youths were caught early Sunday. three adults aged 16 to 17 released on bail with trial. They caused fence destruction over 600 feet, car wiring thefts, a plate glass window smashed, barn damage, and vandalisms across Oliver and Walley streets. Nine more windows and shopfronts were damaged Sunday evening.

Bristol Community Fund Campaign Set for Strong Start

Supt. Elmer S. Mapes announced Bristol will launch its first united fund drive led by Bristol Community Fund Inc. The campaign unites local agencies and the USO with the Rhode Island United War Fund, supporting local services, war relief, and payroll deduction plans. Rich with named organizers and division heads, the effort aims for broad participation and includes Rockwell Hall events with James I. Hanley as speaker.

Plans Completed for Annual Charity Drive by Italian Socialites

The Italian Socialites Women's Club finalized plans for its annual charity drive starting in December. Hostess Mrs Minnie Nappi welcomed members at High Street. Co chairmen Madeline Cortellessa and Nancy Vitello led the planning with several committee members. The club voted a five dollar donation to United War Relief Fund.

Peter Gladues Observe 65th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Peter Gladue of 363 Wood street hosted a reception at the Legion Home honoring their 65th wedding anniversary. The couple both 87 led the grand march with eight children and 39 grandchildren present. Loyetta Drainville of Warren read a poem. attendees included five of their sons and several relatives from Warren and Taunton.
