Armistice Day Speaker to Highlight Kearney Legion Event

Lieutenant Alfred A. Snowball USNR will speak at the Armistice Day ceremony by Kearney Post American Legion at Coke High School. Snowball, a former PT boat commander awarded the Silver Star and Presidential Citation, will be introduced by LeRoy L Doan. The program includes the high school band, vocal solos, roll call of deceased veterans, and remarks by guest speaker Snowball with Rev Fr James Gilsenan as chaplain. The Armistice Day committee, led by Dean, meets tonight before the post’s regular monthly gathering.

Practice Bomb Lands at High Street Residence

A nine inch practice bomb fell from a Navy plane over Bristol causing a slight fire at 331 High Street. Two high school students saw the incident and dodged as the bomb struck telephones and the roof. Firemen quickly extinguished the blaze and service was temporarily disrupted. Police await military retrieval and clarify identification markings used on training ordnance.

J. Burleigh Cheney of Skyway Corp predicts Bristol will receive helicopter service after the war. He told the Rotary Club helicopters suit short flights and are not hard to handle, with routes planned for New England and Bristol possibly on the schedule.
