Fourth of July Group Plans Sub Display and Parade Returns
The Fourth of July Committee aims to display a captured German U Boat in Bristol Harbor during the celebration. They expect Navy Coast Guard Marine Corps and Army representation in the parade and plan vaudeville acts and events at the Bristol Yacht Club. Fireworks are cancelled this year to avoid local costs. Memorial Services Scheduled For F O Cornelius Atkins
Friends of Fight Officer Cornelius J Atkins invite attendance at memorial services at Grace Church Providence on Thursday May 31 at 4 30 pm. Atkins a co pilot on a B 24 based with the 8th AAF in England was killed in action in Germany on May 7 after his plane crashed. He was overseas since March and had completed five missions prior. Born August 23 1924 in Atlanta he lived in Bristol and Harrisville since age four. He attended Moses Brown and Middlesex School and spent a freshman year at Harvard. He worked at Walsh Kaiser Shipyard before entering service on May 25 1943. He is survived by his parents Morris and Hope Phinney and Ruth and two sisters.
