Here's Your Infantry comes to Burr's Hill Park for war bond demo

A living show featuring 37 infantrymen and 2 officers titled Here's Your Infantry will stage a mock assault on a Jop pillbox at Burr's Hill Park Warren on June 6 at 8 pm to illustrate combat conditions and the value of the 7th War Loan bond drive. No bonds will be sold during the performance.

Bristol Senior High Memorial Day Observance

Bristol Senior High School held its Memorial Day program in Colt Auditorium. The assembly opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and songs including The Vacant Chair Say a Prayer for the Boys Over There and My Buddy. Bertram W. Wall delivered the principal address. Pfc. Sylvester S. Silvia of Bristol was freed from a German prison camp and is en route home. His wife Kathryn LaFazia Silvia and family on 77 Oliver Street celebrate, with confirmation from government officials. Silvia had priorly been listed missing then prisoner of war after service in the West Indies and European theater.

Sergeant Manuel F. Silvia Promoted From Private First Class

Manuel F. Silvia formerly of the Downtown First National Store has been promoted to sergeant. He is stationed at the Reception Center Camp Beale California where he and fellow soldiers recently received the Good Conduct Medal from General Abbot in a dress parade at the camp.

Sgt Riccio Honorably Discharged Under New Army Points System

Sgt James F. Riccio son of Mr James Riccio 24 DeWolf Avenue was honorably discharged by the U S Army under the new point system. He served thirty five months in the China Burma India Theatre. The Hope Circle Daughters of Isabella will meet Monday at 8 PM at the K of C Hall State Street with a business session followed by a social chaired by Mrs Pauline Langello and a large accompanying group.

Released prisoner recalls German captivity story

Pfc. William J. Bottomley described the capture chain from a German spy to the General Staff and recounted harsh wartime conditions. He said prisoners forfeited belongings and wore mixed uniforms, endured long marches and cold box cars, and faced executions for escapes. He noted morale shifts, homecoming hopes, and plans to reunite with fellow veterans.

Posthumous Purple Heart Award for Anthony Perroni

Anthony Perroni, Lt. Sgt. Air Corps, killed in action after a Flying Fortress was shot down over Germany, receives the Purple Heart posthumously. Secretary Henry L. Stimson and General Henry H. Arnold sign the award and citation, with Perroni's family including brothers in service and a Washington street address noted.
