Colt High Nine Wins By Forfeit In Bleven Field Game

The Colt Memorial High School nines defeated Providence Trade School by forfeit in the ninth inning after protests over umpire calls. Colt led 4-4 when Providence withdrew, giving Colt a 9 0 decision as substitute umpire Frank Binard oversaw the finale.

Memorial Day Holiday Schedule At Local Post Office

Postmaster George W Warren announces the Memorial Day holiday schedule. No deliveries or money orders. one street box pickup at 7 am. dispatch at 8 45 am. mail received at 6 45 and 7 45 am. stamps and general delivery close at 9 am. lobby open 7 am to 5 pm. call ahead by 4 30 pm to hold mail.

Special Order No. 2 calls Babbitt Post 15 and invited groups to assemble May 30 1928 at 9 am in full uniform or dark clothes. Henry H Bullock leads the parade with Lt Herbert F Bennett Camp, Sons of Union Veterans and multiple brass bands, troops, scouts, and auxiliaries. Rites include Lincoln Gettysburg Address readings, wreaths, and monument decorations at North Cemetery and the bay waters.

Fourth of July Committee Plans National Day Festivities

The Fourth of July Committee meets in the Burnside Memorial building and finalizes plans for Independence Day. Newport Naval Training Station will send 100 men and a band, while Col Charles Lindbergh cannot attend. Rev R J Chrystie accepts chaplaincy, bands are booked for parades and concerts, and a midnight bonfire is set for July 3. Boxing contest plans are dropped.

Veterans Entertained At Soldiers Home May Event

The Rhode Island Soldiers Home hosted an afternoon program by its Veterans Committee and Woman's Relief Corps. May birthdays for Charles Gardner and John Sullivan were honored with gifts. The event featured songs, solos, readings, a piano piece, a dance specialty, and a flag salute ending with America.

Procession to Mount Carmel Church Honors Blessed Virgin

One hundred sixty girls and forty boys marched from Congregational street to the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Miss Mary Ferraiuola crowned the statue of the Blessed Virgin, with Miss Helen Pagano placing the crown. The group sang hymns around the statue after services as Rev. Joseph Poja delivered a life of Mary sermon.
