Feast of Ecce Homo observed by Portuguese community

Portuguese residents of this town near the west end celebrated the Feast of Ecce Homo with Vesper services at St. Elizabeth's Church, a high Mass and benediction, and a religious street procession. Local and visiting Portuguese from Rhode Island and Massachusetts joined the ceremonies led by Rev. Father Manuel J. Barros.

Senator Vanderbilt to Entertain R I Fire Chiefs

Senator William Vanderbilt will entertain the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs at a meeting on his Portsmouth farm. Several prominent firefighters and town and state leaders will attend. The fire chiefs met last night at the Exchange Place fire headquarters in Providence.

Veterans entertain at Soldiers' Home by Providence Auxiliaries

Spanish War Veterans performed with Walter Northup Basil Smith and Howard Taylor in a Sunday program at the Soldiers' Home. vocalists included Jean Roberger Edward Classick and Rose Lauria oversaw the event while cigars cigarettes tobacco and candy were distributed to veterans.

Play of Business World Staged by Guiteras Pupils

Ninth grade pupils at Guiteras Memorial junior high staged a three act play Not to the Swift about the business world. Cast included Berty a asta ape as damaestikmaeas sre and Frank Balzano as Willard Stead with others portraying roles such as stenographers office boy and typewriter repairman. Lorraine Belle danced tap numbers and songs were performed by the school choir.

Poppies Made in Newport for Bristol Legion Drive

Citizens of Bristol are assured they will wear American Legion Auxiliary poppies made in America by disabled veterans. Mrs Walter Carr, chairman, notes foreign-made poppies and flags exist but the auxiliary’s flowers are produced in the U S A. Poppy sales Friday and Saturday aim to boost veteran employment in hospitals and work rooms.

May Procession At St Marys Church Bishops Blessings

Nearly 200 members of St Marys Church sodalities joined a May procession indoors due to weather. Altar boys and acolytes led the crowd with a floral crown ceremony and acts of consecration read by members of Blessed Virgin Mary and other sodalities. Rev Thomas J Gillan preached on faith and unity, with assistance from Revs Milton J. King and Edward F. Walsh.

Load of Fish To Be Distributed Tomorrow

Gen. L. H Callan announced a truckload of fish will be distributed free tomorrow at 5 30 PM in the Callan Construction Company yard. Newport fishermen supply the fish and Callan lends a truck to bring the load to Bristol for those who wish to take part.

Holmes Brothers Return from Honolulu After Two Years

Earl C Holmes and his brother Hugh arrived home after spending two years in Honolulu. Their parents Mr and Mrs James Holmes of Byfield Street welcomed them with great joy. Earl wrote for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin while Hugh served aboard the S S President McKinley.

A large audience enjoyed The World’s All Right at Guneral Auditorium, with another show planned tonight under St. Michael’s Parish Council. Lois Larrick directed a smooth, well staged production. Calbraith Perry hosted, and Mrs R S Brightman played piano.
