The ceremony followed a blue hydrangea carpet, lavish church and park receptions, and a festive island tour for 144 guests arriving by ship.

Freighter Goes Aground South of Hog Island

A World War II Liberty style freighter named Ocean Rose ran aground early yesterday southwest of Hog Island while en route to Providence with 2 500 000 board feet of lumber from New Bedford. Two tugs and harbor craft assisted. no damage reported and the ship moved off by midafternoon as harbormaster noted the tide helped.

Bristol's 1955 tax roll shows U S Rubber as the largest payer at 74868.84, up from last year. Colt Estate is the top residential taxpayer with 13542.44 tax. Charles B Rockwell is the leading individual with 5200.13. Collins and Aikman drops to second in tax bills at 24065.76, close to Narragansett Electric at 23948.11. Carr Manufacturing and Bristol Manufacturing follow. Largest exemption goes to Bristol and Warren Water Works at 664050 valuation.

Twenty One Invites Sent For Meeting On Tourist Trade

New Time Schedule At Rogers Free Library

Rogers Free Library adopts new hours effective Friday June 1 with opening at 2 30 instead of 3 closing Thursdays and Saturday hours from 1 to 7 P M Friday hours extend to 9 P M with no 6 to 7 break The change aims to aid high school students in study and reference and to align staff with a five day week while preserving evening access during July and August closing at 8 30 P M on those months Bookings and routine operations are adjusted to provide earlier opening and a free evening for librarians and patrons alike.

Colt Defeats Top Team In 4 3 Till Colt Defeats Top Team In 4 3 Till

St Raphael Academy upset Eastern Division leaders Colt 4 3 at Gutieras Field as Colt handed the division’s top team its first loss. Colt leveled the series with three runs in the first and one in the fourth, while St Raphael rallied in the eighth with four errors by Colt helping the Saints to a 9 4 win. Pitcher Jack Jordan moved from center to mound for St Raphael late, with Ed Ferns and Vic Andrade among the key swingers for Colt. The outcome leaves both squads tied for second in the division at 7 2 and 7 2 records respectively.
