Small group of taxpayers approve all items in call

Last night 140 of 2544 eligible voters attended a town meeting and approved all items in the warrant. Key actions include authorizing the Town Treasurer to borrow 61,550 repaid in ten annual payments, and approving a 40000 Veterans Housing project with a Soldiers Home site option. The meeting covered sewer work costs, park use of the town dump, and 15050 for Narrows Road water and fire hydrants.

William J Bottomley Pledges Delta Tau Delta at Brown

Providence May 20 William J Bottomley son of Mrs Wm A Bottomley of 4 Howestreet Bristol pledges Delta Tau Delta at Brown University The fraternity founded at Bethany College West Virginia in 1859 and established at Brown in 1896 is among the 17 national fraternities represented on campus Bottomley a Colt Memorial High School graduate and Brown senior participates in the university musical show this spring.

Howe receives war medal for meritorious civilian service

George L. Howe, formerly of this town, earned the Medal of Freedom and a Truman citation for civilian work with the armed forces from 1944 to 1945. He helped locate German artillery with the 7th Army, organized agent travel papers behind enemy lines, and oversaw 61 agents with 59 returning. He also authored an operation order for German police that aided Allied intelligence. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Walls Howe and a World War I veteran.

GOP Committee Plans Registration Campaign This Week

Republican Town Committee approves four resignations and fills vacancies. A weekly plant registration drive is planned through June 30 with Public Welfare Director Joseph J Marshall and others joining Everett Lee Church as treasurer and Leroy Dean as secretary. Courses for Bristol RI State College project announced

The Bristol County Rhode Island State College center announced courses for the general college extension program led by Dean Asa S Knowles. Courses mirror freshman year offerings in English science math economics and political science with blocks in design chemistry and accounting. Plans include using Colt and Andrews buildings facilities and a GI Minstrel to be staged by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Holy Name Society in early June.

Otari Family Circus Trio Back in Action at Ringling Show

The Otari family, led by Frank Sr., return to Ringling Brothers with the Flying Trapeze act after wartime service. The 67 year old father helped pioneer the “flying return” routine while guiding Frank Jr, Constantine, Nina and siblings through years of training and performances across Europe and America.
