GOBS May Again Play Prominent Part In Local Fourth
The Fourth of July committee hopes to have gobs for Bristol parade though battleships to anchor at Bristol harbor were ruled out as ships will be on the Pacific coast. Senators Metcalf and Gerry pressed for a destroyer or Newport Naval Training Station visit. The Spanish War Veterans will hold their 3rd annual Rhode Island convention July 3 and 4 with about 1300 attendees. Edward Gladding and William Paine handle encampment details. Mrs. Gladding hosts the auxiliary. Fred Wilbur reports the mile of pennies drive should start this week. A $250 concession bid for the common week of the Fourth was approved pending Town Council consent.
