Protect American Children Weighing and Measuring Test

National effort for a Children's Year runs April 6 to June 6. Local Council of National Defense committees and the Children's Bureau organize weighing and measuring to identify at risk children and drive long term welfare work. Mrs John Temple Drury leads Bristol's Child Welfare Department as trials begin locally.

Warren and Herreshoff wed in St Michael's Church

Miss Helen B. Warren and Nathaniel G. Herreshoff Jr. were married in a quiet St Michael's Church ceremony conducted by Rev Anson B Howard. The couple planned a brief reception and a motor trip before his return to duty and her stay in Sackett Harbor until he is called abroad.

Bowling tournament at the Y M C A this week

A two man event begins this week at the Y M C A. The first prize equals the amount deposited by the bowlers in thrift stamps. The second prize consists of free bowling strings.

Red Cross Campaign Opens Here with Naval Band Concert

The Red Cross drive began yesterday and runs through Monday night. Newport Second District Naval Reserve Band performed at Pastime theatre with 72 members, only 58 able to attend due to the launch size. Lib erty tableau featured Mrs Harold E Pedley and Red Cross nurses Miss Eliza W Howe and Miss Phyllis R Farrally as the band played.

Local Rubber Workers Union Sparks Government Intervention

The Allied Workers' Union demands mass dismissals of overseers and foremen at the National India Rubber Company. Federal authorities warned that striking would not be tolerated as the plant supplies rubber shoes to the Navy, with leaders facing up to two years in prison if they push actions that disrupt government service.

Red Cross Bristol Auxiliary to Elect Officers May Meeting

The Bristol Auxiliary of the American Red Cross holds its annual meeting to elect officers and conduct business on Tuesday evening May 28 at 8 in Rockwell Hall at the Y M C A Building. Capt Douglas Borden of the 85th Nova Scotia Islanders will speak on Red Cross work from front-line experience. admission is free.
